Xandria成立于2000年，主唱Lisa Schaphaus、吉他手/键盘手Marco Heubaum、吉他手Philip Restemeier、鼓手Gerit Lamm – Schlagzeug，2003年4月发表自行制作的首张专辑《Kill The Sun》，受到关注，之后加盟德国金属名厂Drakkar，于2004年5月发表以探讨情欲为主的第二张专辑《Ravenheart》。

  • Columbus wanted to reach a goal: The new sea route to India. He never discovered
    

  • it, yet something far more important instead - America. Just like he sailed
    

  • westwards filled with his goal, we are striving for our goals in life, maybe
    

  • even for our one and only goal. And often we find, like Columbus, something
    

  • completely different on our way, something that is far more fascinating, that
    

  • becomes far more important to us. "India" on this third album of the band stands
    

  • for this one goal, as a symbol for what we are looking for and maybe do not find
    

  • at all - but something completely different instead.
    

  • "Writing the
    

  • songs, we noticed that many of the words describe points on this journey, on
    

  • this quest. Be it disappointments, love, struggles, decisions we have to take.
    

  • And thus it was logical to frame the songs by both title tracks "India" and
    

  • "Return to India", because by doing this we take a musical trip through them as
    

  • well."
    

  • As on the
    

  • predecessor "Ravenheart", also this time this journey turns out to be highly
    

  • imaginative, peppered with a variety of ideas. It is not only that on the album
    

  • Deutsche Filmorchester Babelsberg, guest musicians of an Irish folk band as well
    

  • as appearences of musicians and the female singer of the band Lyriel and the
    

  • Australian Grant Stevens can be heard, the band took long strides forwards and
    

  • captured their powerful and vivid live sound on CD without cutbacks this
    

  • time.
    

  • "After shows
    

  • and on tour, many fans told us that they liked our stage sound much more than on
    

  • record, and since in retrospect we regard "Ravenheart" as being produced a bit
    

  • too soft, we simply translated this on the new record."
    

  • Right from
    

  • the beginning, this end was aimed at together with producer José Alvarez-Brill,
    

  • who - as with "Ravenheart" - sat behind the desk again. For this, they worked
    

  • intensively on a present guitar sound and improvised a lot during the drum
    

  • recordings to gain a more vivid feeling. The recordings took place with some
    

  • interruptions used for further song writing and arranging from December 2004 to

  • which were to be found on the demo already plus another five which had been
    

  • written in the meantime were recorded for it with producer Dirk Riegner, also
    

  • known as the keyboard player of Secret Discovery and recently as the producer of
    

  • Milú. After a short period of pre-production at Dirk Riegner's studio, which
    

  • then was located right beside the grounds of the Zeche Bochum, the band entered
    

  • the snow-covered Principal Studio in Münster about New Year 2003. Within one
    

  • week the instruments were recorded, for the vocal recordings the band again went
    

  • to Bochum to the small studio of the producer. Afterwards, the album was mixed
    

  • on the grounds of the Horus Sound Studios (also Guano Apes etc.) in Hannover at
    

  • a small studio of mixing engineer Modo Bierkamp. Three months later, the result
    

  • - provided with an artwork by Kai Hoffmann (also Secret Discovery) - hit the
    

  • stores on 5 May, 2003, and at once met with as much approval as to enter the
    

  • German charts: On number 98 it only just hit them, but this was quite remarkable
    

  • for a German band whose sound mainly was and still is influenced by Gothic
    

  • Metal. The press also was very much taken with the band and the album without
    

  • exeption gained good marks in the reviews of the scene magazines well-known and
    

  • unknown.
    

  • "Of course
    

  • everything was very new and fascinating for us. The time spent together at the
    

  • studio also today still seems like a dream to us, it was big fun to record our
    

  • songs in a great, professional studio. Beforehand we were slightly suspicious
    

  • because as a guitar-oriented band we were to be produced by a keyboard player,
    

  • but then it all turned out well, although there were differences every now and
    

  • then. I kind of got my teeth into the decision not to be singing anymore, but in
    

  • retrospect it was good - I'm no singing talent, you can convince yourselves with
    

  • the demos, haha! Finally, it became a nice album with everything we wanted at
    

  • that time: Rocking guitars, a few spacy sounds, much atmosphere. Tiamat and
    

  • Paradise Lost then were important influences, and you can right hear that. We
    

  • still are very concerned about many of those songs, and no matter we already
    

  • have played them a thousand times, they still are fun." (Marco)

  • With album number two, Xandria
    

  • suddenly became known in the Gothic and Metal scene, for with the title track
    

  • and the video which went with it the band played themselves into the hearts of
    

  • many new listeners. Recorded and mixed in the Belgian studio of producer José
    

  • Alvarez-Brill (Wolfsheim, among others), in the months of December 2003 to
    

  • February 2004, an album with many facets came into existance: Together with the
    

  • producer the band tried many new things like soundtrack-like, bombastic
    

  • arrangements, modern guitar riffs and rhythmic samples. "We didn't want to stand
    

  • still. After the tours following the debut, I had many new ideas and wanted to
    

  • try out many things. The debut album was like a well-knit statement on whose
    

  • basis new territory could be opened up, further musical dreams could be realized
    

  • now. So not only the orchestral bombast and the many new sound opportunities,
    

  • which were posssible due to the gained experience and the new producer, were
    

  • something attractive and new, but in connection with the enthusiasm for
    

  • soundtrack elements also for example a number such as "Some like it cold", which
    

  • should sound like a James Bond title song. Also new to the work on this album
    

  • was that I wrote songs together with Lisa more than for the debut. There is also
    

  • a song by then bass player Roland on the album - his farewell, so to speak, for
    

  • he left the band right after the recordings." (Marco)
    

  • On May 24, 2004, one year after "Kill the sun",
    

  • "Ravenheart" was released and besides very good reviews again, it even entered
    

  • the album charts still higher than the debut: Number 36, and all in all it
    

  • remained in the Top 100 for seven weeks.
    

  • "Of course we were
    

  • very surprised by this success! When, about the end of the production process,
    

  • we realized what a variable and many-sided album we had recorded, at times we
    

  • even had doubts as to whether an album with so many different ideas and elements
    

  • would go down well with the people at all. But success proved us right in most
    

  • of all working as we ourselves liked it best and being convinced of what we do.
